Background: Hispanics represent approximately 17.4 percent of the US population. A recent analysis of cancer in Hispanics as performed using the National Cancer Institutes Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results SEER program that estimated 11,700 ne cases of colorectal cancer CRC in Hispanics in 2015. Methods: We analyzed 608,192 patients using the National Cancer Database NCDB Participant User File PUF of colon cancer from 2004 to 2013, of hich 31,102 ere Hispanic 5.1 percent . Continuous variables ere compared using independent-samples t-tests; categorical variables ere compared using chi-square tests; p lt 0.05 as used to indicate statistical significance. Results: Our data shoed that hen compared to non-Hispanics ith CRC, Hispanics ith CRC ere an average of 5 years younger, more likely to be uninsured 10 percent vs 3 percent , on Medicaid 12 percent vs 4 percent , have a loer income 27 percent vs 18 percent , live in a metro area 74 percent vs 52 percent and are three times less likely to have a high school diploma. A slightly higher proportion of Hispanics ith CRC ere male. Distribution of stage ithin the Hispanic population as minimally skeed toard higher stages hen compared to non-Hispanics. Of 70,419 patients receiving multi-agent chemotherapy in Stage III CRC, Hispanics and Non-Hispanics shoed similar percentages of 46.7 percent and 45.1 percent respectively, suggesting similar intensity of therapy. Conclusions: 5.1 percent of the database ere Hispanic hile the US population of Hispanics is 17.4 percent. This could be due to loer cancer rates as shoed by SEER, loer capturing of Hispanic patients, or Hispanics seeking less care due to younger age, economic factors or lack of health insurance. Our data suggests that loer screening rates had only a small effect on the incidence of CRC due to similar percentages ithin stage groups. Further studies should be performed to analyze survival.
