Povidone-iodine gargle as a prophylactic intervention to interrupt the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by a novel coronavirus, SARS-COV-2 was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO) in January 2020.
