Proteaphagy-Selective Autophagy of Inactive Proteasomes. In this issue of Molecular Cell, Marshall et al. (2015) report that proteasomes, the ATP-dependent protease complexes that execute ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation in eukaryotes, can be degraded by a newly described form of selective autophagy, termed proteaphagy.
