From genes to sequences to antibiotics: prospects for future developments from microbial genomics. The entire genome sequences for a number of microbial organisms have become available over the past few years. This knowledge is the beginning point for understanding the fundamental principles of bacterial structure and function. The prospects for gain in knowledge from genomics are discussed in this report.
