In 3 patients this condition followed a perforation of a grossly distended caecum. In 2 of these patients there was an associated malignant neoplasm of the pelvic colon with obstruction. The third patient had a pseudo-obstruction of the transverse colon. The fourth patient had a tension penumoperitoneum with associated surgical emphysema in the neck and subcutaneous tissues of the abdomen and chest walls, following perforation of a duodenal ulcer. The aetiology, presentation and management, together with the mechanism of tension pneumoperitoneum, are discussed.","tracks":[{"project":"PubCasesHPO","denotations":[{"id":"AB1","span":{"begin":241,"end":249},"obj":"HP:0002664"},{"id":"AB2","span":{"begin":431,"end":440},"obj":"HP:0002097"},{"id":"AB3","span":{"begin":537,"end":551},"obj":"HP:0002588"}],"attributes":[{"subj":"AB1","pred":"source","obj":"PubCasesHPO"},{"subj":"AB2","pred":"source","obj":"PubCasesHPO"},{"subj":"AB3","pred":"source","obj":"PubCasesHPO"}]},{"project":"PubmedHPO","denotations":[{"id":"T1","span":{"begin":241,"end":249},"obj":"HP_0002664"},{"id":"T2","span":{"begin":431,"end":440},"obj":"HP_0002097"},{"id":"T3","span":{"begin":520,"end":545},"obj":"HP_0002247"},{"id":"T4","span":{"begin":537,"end":551},"obj":"HP_0002588"}],"attributes":[{"subj":"T1","pred":"source","obj":"PubmedHPO"},{"subj":"T2","pred":"source","obj":"PubmedHPO"},{"subj":"T3","pred":"source","obj":"PubmedHPO"},{"subj":"T4","pred":"source","obj":"PubmedHPO"}]}],"config":{"attribute types":[{"pred":"source","value type":"selection","values":[{"id":"PubCasesHPO","color":"#cf93ec","default":true},{"id":"PubmedHPO","color":"#93ecb5"}]}]}}
