To minimize the risk of deploying with asymptomatic carriers of SARS-CoV-2 on board, the Navy has initiated several procedures to create and sustain Covid-19–free environments on its ships. Before deployment, all members of a ship’s crew are placed in “restriction of movement” and insulated from community exposure for 14 days. To identify asymptomatic or presymptomatic carriers, the Navy added rRT-PCR testing at the end of the “restriction of movement” period. Navy ships have sharply reduced shore leaves at foreign ports to prevent crew members from bringing the virus on board. Since these policies (along with preventive measures of mask use, social distancing to the extent possible, small-group cohorting, strict hand hygiene, and regular cleaning of common spaces) were put in place, the Navy has deployed multiple ships without sustaining another serious outbreak. The concept of creating virus-free “bubbles” is a strategy the Navy has used and has been mirrored by the National Basketball Association and Major League Soccer to enable competition while minimizing the risk of player exposure. It is unlikely that this strategy is practical for all employers, much less the general population; however, creating bubbles or cohorts for select populations may be achievable.","tracks":[{"project":"LitCovid-PubTator","denotations":[{"id":"283","span":{"begin":353,"end":357},"obj":"Gene"},{"id":"284","span":{"begin":191,"end":201},"obj":"Species"},{"id":"285","span":{"begin":276,"end":284},"obj":"Disease"}],"attributes":[{"id":"A283","pred":"tao:has_database_id","subj":"283","obj":"Gene:3635"},{"id":"A284","pred":"tao:has_database_id","subj":"284","obj":"Tax:2697049"},{"id":"A285","pred":"tao:has_database_id","subj":"285","obj":"MESH:C000657245"},{"subj":"283","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-PubTator"},{"subj":"284","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-PubTator"},{"subj":"285","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-PubTator"}],"namespaces":[{"prefix":"Tax","uri":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/taxonomy/"},{"prefix":"MESH","uri":"https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/"},{"prefix":"Gene","uri":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/"},{"prefix":"CVCL","uri":"https://web.expasy.org/cellosaurus/CVCL_"}]},{"project":"LitCovid-sentences","denotations":[{"id":"T150","span":{"begin":0,"end":38},"obj":"Sentence"},{"id":"T151","span":{"begin":39,"end":126},"obj":"Sentence"},{"id":"T152","span":{"begin":127,"end":316},"obj":"Sentence"},{"id":"T153","span":{"begin":317,"end":455},"obj":"Sentence"},{"id":"T154","span":{"begin":456,"end":591},"obj":"Sentence"},{"id":"T155","span":{"begin":592,"end":711},"obj":"Sentence"},{"id":"T156","span":{"begin":712,"end":1003},"obj":"Sentence"},{"id":"T157","span":{"begin":1004,"end":1233},"obj":"Sentence"},{"id":"T158","span":{"begin":1234,"end":1412},"obj":"Sentence"}],"namespaces":[{"prefix":"_base","uri":"http://pubannotation.org/ontology/tao.owl#"}],"attributes":[{"subj":"T150","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-sentences"},{"subj":"T151","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-sentences"},{"subj":"T152","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-sentences"},{"subj":"T153","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-sentences"},{"subj":"T154","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-sentences"},{"subj":"T155","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-sentences"},{"subj":"T156","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-sentences"},{"subj":"T157","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-sentences"},{"subj":"T158","pred":"source","obj":"LitCovid-sentences"}]}],"config":{"attribute types":[{"pred":"source","value type":"selection","values":[{"id":"LitCovid-PubTator","color":"#c4ec93","default":true},{"id":"LitCovid-sentences","color":"#ec93de"}]}]}}
