He is a materials scientist with a postdoctoral experience in Chemistry at the University of Arizona where he worked with Prof. Joe Perry. He started his academic career as a faculty member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then moved as a full professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne always in the materials science departments. Stellacci has published more than 100 papers and has more than 15 patent applications. His interests are in solid–liquid interfaces, supramolecular chemistry, and nanotechnology. His group tries to use the tools of supramolecular chemistry to create nanomaterials that have unique properties.
