For the cell biology experiments we used standard human model cell lines U2OS (ATCC HTB-96; osteosarcoma) and HEK293T (ATCC CRL-3216; embryonic kidney). The cells were grown in DMEM (Sigma-Aldrich) supplemented with 10% FBS (GIBCO) and penicillin-streptomycin (100 U/ml, GIBCO) at 37°C with 5% CO2.
