Post hoc, 21 of the 53 included patients were excluded due to diagnoses other than AD or FTD during follow-up (7), lack of progression (4), low data quality (4), or because of incomplete imaging data (6). Age was not different between AD and FTD patients and older controls (F(2,54) = 0.886, p \u003e .05). MMSE was different across the patient groups and older controls (F(2,53) = 13.476, p \u003c .05): both patient groups had lower scores compared to older controls, but not compared to each other (Table 2). Due to language deficits, two patients with PPA had MMSE scores of \u003c20. Their full neuropsychological examination indicated only moderate impairment in all cognitive domains except for language, affecting the MMSE score.
