Magnetic Resonance Imaging Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) was performed using a 7-T Bruker MRI (Bruker Biospin, Rheinstetten, Germany). Mice were anesthetized by inhalation of 3% isoflurane in room air, and the respiratory rate was continuously monitored. Core temperature was maintained at 30±2°C by a flow of warm air. A 3-dimensional (3D) gradient-echo sequence was used to acquire MRA images with the following parameters: field of view (FOV)=19.2×12.8×9.6 mm; matrix=192×128×96; repetition time/echo time (TR/TE)=120/4.3 ms; flip angle=60 degrees, and scan time=1 hour, 39 minutes. To detect infarction, T2-weighted images were also acquired using a rapid acquisition with relaxation enhancement sequence with the following parameters: TE/TR=5000/15 ms; effective TE=60 ms; echo train length=8; FOV=19.2×19.2 mm2; slice thickness=0.6 mm; matrix=256×256; and the number of excitations=4.
