Microscopic analysis of tissue obtained upon gross dissection indicates that the patient's pulmonary disease is more appropriately classified as NSIP. In distinction with IPF, NSIP tends to occur at a younger age, is associated with a better clinical outcome, and occurs in a wide variety of clinical contexts, sometimes in association with an underlying disorder [25]. However, by history and clinical laboratory examination, a predisposing disorder remains undiscovered. One exception, though, was the patient's extensive smoking history, which is a known risk factor for IPF [31], though only indirectly so for NSIP [32]."}
