These efforts focus on the use of multiple beamlets and seek to better utilize the power available from lasers to improve imaging speed, signal-to-noise ratio and flexibility. While our motivation was to utilize two-photon microscopy to better understand how neurons and neuronal circuits contribute to brain function, the methods here are applicable beyond that specific question. In this focused review we concentrate on these approaches and their context, but we do not intend to review comprehensively other fast imaging techniques. For that purpose, we refer readers to recent general reviews of the field (Saggau, 2006; Grewe and Helmchen, 2009).","tracks":[]}
