12  • Slight lymphocytopenia was observed in mild patients and significantly higher in severe COVID-19 patients as revealed by decrease in CD4+, CD8+ and NK cell number.• Peripheral blood showed increased activation status of CD8+ T with higher percentage of CD38+CD8+, CD38+HLA-DR, and CD38+HLA-DR+CD8+ cells in severe than mild cases.
