A novel coronavirus causing pneumonia was identified in China in December 2019. On February 11, the Coronavirus Study Group (CGS) of the International Committee on Virus Taxonomy (ICTV) designated the virus as SARS-CoV-2 based on phylogeny and taxonomy.10 The same day, the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) designated the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 “coronavirus disease 2019” (COVID-19). On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. As of May 2020, SARS-CoV-2 has spread across the world in over 185 countries, with millions of infections and hundreds of thousands of deaths.11
