1.1. Epidemiology The outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 was first reported on 12 December 2019 in Wuhan, China, possibly related to a seafood market [2]. Based on data retrieved from the World Health Organization (WHO), at the date of the present article (22 April 2020), there are 2,471,136 confirmed cases, with 169,006 deaths, and the virus is present in 213 countries, areas, or territories [3]. The median age of patients is 47–59 years and 41.9%–45.7% of patients are female [2]. Due to the widespread and rapid growth of infection, WHO declared that the global outbreak of the new coronavirus infection SARS-CoV-2 can be considered a pandemic [3].
