What Are Common Gastrointestinal/Liver Adverse Effects of COVID-19 Treatments? `There are currently no US Food and Drug Administration–approved routine treatments for COVID-19. The FDA has issued an emergency use authorization for 3 therapies: choloroquine or hydroxychloroquine, remdesivir, and convalescent plasma.82 In China and Japan, favipiravir has been approved for the treatment of COVID-19. Numerous medications are under investigation; the World Health Organization is spearheading a multinational, multicenter trial for the 5 treatments highlighted below.83 We aim to provide a summary of the Gl and liver adverse effects of the most commonly utilized medications for COVID-19 at this time, irrespective of their efficacy.
