Phenotypic Measurements LBCs Weight and height were measured in the LBCs by a trained nurse according to a standardized protocol. Participants were asked to remove their shoes before a seca stadiometer was used to assess height in centimeters. Weight (after participants removed shoes and outer clothing) was measured in kilograms by electronic seca scales, which provided digital readouts. LifeLines DEEP Height was measured without shoes by the seca 222 stadiometer. Weight was measured without shoes and heavy clothing by the seca 761 scale. All measurements were performed by a trained research nurse. BSGS Height and weight were both measured clinically with a stadiometer and accurate scales, respectively. Anthropometric measurements were only available for the offspring. Complete blood cell counts (lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils) were measured in the LBCs and LifeLines cohort.
