CBX4 and CBX8 are major transcriptional repressors that epigenetically modify chromatin and exert important functions in cell-cycle regulation, DNA repair, cell differentiation, cell senescence, and cell death.34 CBX4 and CBX8 expression has been demonstrated to be upregulated in certain types of human cancer.35 However, their amplification and biological roles have not previously been reported in ESCC.
